Kevin (my roommate from California; he came to Nationals '04) and I know of this kid. He was on his high school trivia team, and the competitions were televised on local cable. Kevin liked the show, so we'd end up watching it a bunch.
Anyway, this kid Dan was a standout in the trivia competitions; we basically watched him grow up throughout his high school years. Near the end of his senior year, the host of the show asked him where he was going to college; when he said he was going to MIT, we were psyched.
I think I saw him in an Athena cluster one day when I came back to finish my degree. I was tempted to say hi to him, but he looked as if that might've weirded him out a bit too much...
I repeat: this SUCKS.
